I’ll be honest with you – when I first started playing Pokémon Legends Z-A, I had no idea how deep the Furfrou trimming system went. I mean, sure, I knew Furfrou could get different haircuts from the old X&Y days, but I never expected there to be TEN different forms to unlock! After spending countless hours tracking down every single trim and completing all the side missions, I’m here to share everything I’ve learned so you can complete your Furfrou collection without all the trial and error I went through.
Where to Find Furfrou in Pokémon Legends Z-A?
Before we even talk about trims, you need to actually catch yourself a Furfrou (or several, like I did). I found that Furfrou doesn’t show up until later in the game, which makes sense since you need to progress through the main story to unlock the trimming missions anyway.
You can find Furfrou in two main locations:
- Wild Zone 11: This is where I caught my first Furfrou. They’re pretty common here once you unlock the area.
- Wild Zone 17: If you’re looking for a challenge, this is where Alpha Furfrou spawns. I spent about an hour here trying to catch one, and let me tell you, it’s worth it for the bragging rights alone!
My advice? Catch at least 3-4 Furfrou before you even start the trimming missions. Trust me, you’ll want multiple Furfrou to show off all the different trims in your collection. I learned this the hard way after having to go back and catch more when I realized I wanted to keep one in each style.
Meeting Mirte: The Furfrou Stylist
Okay, so here’s where the real fun begins. After you progress far enough in the main story (specifically after starting Main Mission 19), you’ll find an NPC named Mirte in Jaune Sector 6. She’s located just north of Wild Zone 11, and honestly, she’s pretty hard to miss – she’s got auburn hair, wears an orange dress, and is standing next to her Scyther.
When I first found her, I was a bit confused about how to access her area. The fastest way I found is to fast travel to Wild Zone 8 and work your way down. It’s much easier than trying to navigate from Wild Zone 11 directly.
Mirte will give you Side Mission 047: “Becoming a Furfrou Trimmer”. This is your gateway to the wonderful world of Furfrou fashion! But don’t get too excited yet – you’ll need to complete this mission and two others to unlock everything.
Side Mission 047: Becoming a Furfrou Trimmer
This first mission is pretty straightforward, but you need to come prepared. Mirte wants to teach her Scyther how to give proper Furfrou trims, and to do that, she needs to see the move Slash in action.
What You Need:
- A Pokémon that knows Slash
- Access to the Substitute Doll near Mirte
Best Pokémon for Slash:
If you’re like me and didn’t have a Pokémon with Slash ready, here are your best options:
- Absol (You should have gotten one during Main Mission 9 – this is what I used!)
- Feraligatr (If you chose this as your starter, you’re set)
- Charmander and its evolutions
- Skarmory
- Gible and its evolutions
- Scyther/Scizor
- Gallade
How to Complete?:
Once you have a Pokémon with Slash in your party, look for the green Substitute Doll near Mirte. It’s pretty easy to spot – just to the right of where she’s standing. Use Slash on the doll, and her Scyther will learn the move by watching you.
Rewards for Completion:
When I completed this mission, I was pleasantly surprised by the rewards:
- 800 coins
- 1 Revive
- 3 Exp. Candy S
- Access to the first four Furfrou trims!
Trims Unlocked:
This mission unlocks your first set of trims:
- Natural Trim (The default look)
- Heart Trim (Light pink – my personal favorite!)
- Star Trim (Blue)
- Diamond Trim (Orange)
Side Mission 062: Becoming a Pro Furfrou Trimmer
After you progress further in the main story (specifically after starting Main Mission 20), Mirte will have another request for you. This time, she wants to learn Razor Leaf to expand her trimming skills.
What You Need:
- A Pokémon that knows Razor Leaf
- The same Substitute Doll from before
Best Pokémon for Razor Leaf:
I had to do some research for this one since I don’t usually keep Grass-types in my party:
- Floette (Works great if you have one)
- Bellsprout (Easy to find and catch)
- Bulbasaur and its evolutions
- Chikorita and its evolutions
- Florges
- Any Grass-type that learns Razor Leaf
How to Complete?:
The process is exactly the same as before – just use Razor Leaf on the Substitute Doll while Mirte and her Scyther watch. I found this mission a bit trickier since I had to go out and catch a Grass-type specifically for it, but it’s totally worth it for the new trims.
Rewards for Completion:
The rewards get better with each mission:
- 1600 coins (Double the first mission!)
- 3 Revives
- 3 Exp. Candy M
Trims Unlocked:
This mission unlocks three more stylish options:
- Debutante Trim (Yellow – very elegant!)
- Matron Trim (Dark pink – sophisticated look)
- Dandy Trim (Green – reminds me of a fancy gentleman)
Side Mission 087: Becoming a Peerless Furfrou Trimmer
This is the final mission in the series, and it doesn’t unlock until you’ve progressed much further in the story (after starting Main Mission 30). I was getting pretty excited by this point because I knew I was so close to completing my collection!
For this mission, Mirte wants to master the ultimate trimming technique by learning Psycho Cut.
What You Need?:
- A Pokémon that knows Psycho Cut
- The trusty Substitute Doll (third time’s the charm!)
Best Pokémon for Psycho Cut:
This one can be a bit challenging since Psycho Cut isn’t as common as the other moves:
- Gallade (Perfect for this – learns it naturally)
- Absol (If you still have yours from the first mission)
- Malamar (Great choice if you have one)
- Kadabra (Another solid option)
How to Complete?:
Same drill as the previous missions – use Psycho Cut on the Substitute Doll. I actually had to train up a Gallade specifically for this, but let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it when I saw the final trims unlock!
Rewards for Completion:
The best rewards are saved for last:
- 2400 coins (Cha-ching!)
- 1 Max Revive (Always useful)
- 3 Exp. Candy L (Great for leveling up your team)
Trims Unlocked:
These final three trims are absolutely stunning:
- La Reine Trim (Royal and majestic – the queen of all trims!)
- Kabuki Trim (Traditional Japanese theater style – so unique!)
- Pharaoh Trim (Ancient Egyptian inspired – my second favorite!)

Tips for Collecting All Trims
Based on my experience collecting all ten trims, here are some tips that will save you time and frustration:
1. Catch Multiple Furfrou Early
I can’t stress this enough – catch at least 3-4 Furfrou before you even start the missions. I made the mistake of only catching one at first, and I had to keep going back to change its style. Having multiple Furfrou means you can keep one in each style permanently.
2. Prepare Your Pokémon Team in Advance
Look at the move requirements (Slash, Razor Leaf, Psycho Cut) and make sure you have Pokémon that can learn these moves. I ended up having to stop my progress multiple times to go catch and train specific Pokémon for each mission.
3. Stock Up on Poké Dollars
Each trim change costs 500 Poké Coins. With 10 trims to collect, that’s 4,500 coins minimum if you want to see them all. I recommend having at least 10,000 coins saved up before you start the trimming process.
4. Progress Through the Main Story
The missions unlock at specific points in the main story (Missions 19, 20, and 30). Don’t try to rush them – just play through the story naturally and they’ll become available when you’re ready.
5. Take Screenshots!
When I finally unlocked all the trims, I wish I had taken screenshots of each one as I unlocked them. They’re all so unique and beautiful, and you’ll want to remember your journey to complete the collection.
My Personal Favorites
After spending so much time with all the different trims, I’ve definitely developed some favorites:
#1: Heart Trim – There’s just something so charming about the light pink heart design. It’s the first one I unlocked, and it still holds a special place in my heart (pun intended!).
#2: Pharaoh Trim – The gold and blue Egyptian-inspired design is absolutely stunning. It was the last one I unlocked, and I was blown away by how detailed and beautiful it is.
#3: Kabuki Trim – The traditional Japanese theater style is so unique and different from all the others. It really shows how much thought Game Freak put into these designs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Furfrou trims are there in total?
There are 10 different Furfrou trims in Pokémon Legends Z-A, including the natural/default form. You need to complete all three of Mirte’s side missions to unlock them all.
Do the trims affect Furfrou’s stats or abilities?
No, the trims are purely cosmetic. They don’t change Furfrou’s stats, type, or abilities in any way. They’re just for style and collection purposes.
Can I change my Furfrou’s trim back to natural?
Yes! Once you unlock the trimming service, you can change between any of the unlocked trims as many times as you want, including going back to the natural form.
Do the trims stay if I transfer Furfrou to Pokémon HOME?
Based on what I’ve read in the community, Furfrou transferred from Pokémon GO retain their forms in HOME, so it’s likely that Furfrou from Legends Z-A will keep their trims as well. However, I haven’t tested this myself yet.
Is it worth completing all the missions just for the trims?
Absolutely! Not only do you get access to all 10 amazing trims, but the rewards from each mission are pretty substantial too. Plus, there’s a special satisfaction that comes from completing the full collection.
Final Thoughts
Completing all the Furfrou trims in Pokémon Legends Z-A has been one of my favorite side activities in the game so far. It’s the perfect combination of story progression, Pokémon collection, and cosmetic customization. I love how each trim has its own unique personality and style, and the journey to unlock them all feels rewarding rather than grindy.
Whether you’re a completionist like me or just someone who loves customizing their Pokémon, I highly recommend taking the time to unlock all the Furfrou trims. It’s a fun side quest that adds so much personality to your team, and let’s be honest – who doesn’t love a well-dressed Pokémon?
Happy trimming, trainers! I hope this guide helps you complete your Furfrou collection faster than I did. And if you have any other tips or tricks I missed, feel free to share them in the comments below!
